Joey Clift Highlights 25 Native American Comedians for Indigenous Peoples’ Day

October 12, 2020
News
illuminative, indigenous peoples day, joey clift

Joey Clift has not only dedicated his life to doing some of the most insane, imaginative bits and concepts on stage (ranging from an entire talk show about cats to finishing Sufjan Stevens’ States project to taking a bamboo stick to the back), but as a proud member of the Cowlitz tribe, Clift has pushed for visibility and representation for native and indigenous talent in comedy and elsewhere. Over the last several months, the importance of BIPOC representation has finally come to the forefront and it’s crucial to keep that going.

For years, he has put up a big showcase highlighting native and indigenous talent at UCB as well as upping their visibility and representation through his own lovely comedy career (see this short film).

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Clift got to handpick a list of 25 Native American and indigenous performers for Illuminative that gives a bigger, deserved spotlight to the likes of Brian Bahe (Tohono O’odham Nation/Hopi/Navajo), Kaitlyn Jeffers (Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate (Dakota)), Monique Moreau (Cree/Saulteaux), Jana Schmieding (Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux Tribe), Lucas Brown Eyes (Oglala Lakota), and many more.

So, please go check the full list here and check out all of their work.

Please Enjoy Joey Clift’s Short Film/PSA “Telling People You’re Native American When You’re Not Native Is A Lot Like Telling A Bear You’re A Bear When You’re Not A Bear”

While it’s Native American Heritage Month right now and it’s pretty opportune timing to post something like this, Joey Clift’s animated short film “Telling People You’re Native American When You’re Not Native Is A Lot Like Telling A Bear You’re A Bear When You’re Not A Bear” is pretty damn great during any time of year.

In fact, it just wrapped up a great festival run and even got to screen at the Smithsonian.

So, enjoy, listen to, learn from, and enjoy some more of “Telling People You’re Native American When You’re Not Native Is A Lot Like Telling A Bear You’re A Bear When You’re Not A Bear” here.

The end of this generation’s Marvel Cinematic Universe saga is coming soon as the release of Avengers: Endgame is set for the end of this month. It should stand to reason that a massive movie franchise bookend deserves a massive themed-improv comedy show to accompany it, no?

Well, that’s what’s going to happen come next Friday as they will have 77 major Marvel characters that would be featured in Endgame all in one show, doing an improvised monoscene. They did this last year with Infinity War and 76 of the Marvel characters (Captain Marvel had not be introduced yet) and it should be a rollicking, mad, hysterical midnight good time (probably even if you don’t know or care about Marvel).

So go get your tickets here before they sell out.

By the way, this is their line-up right now:
Hosted by Walt Disney (Joey Clift) and Kevin Feige (Mark David Christenson)
