The spooky month October is just around the corner and a great way to join in the spirit is going to Chicago’s favorite horror comedy music extravaganza lovingly known as HELLTRAP NIGHTMARE.

We had such a blast the last time they (Sarah Squirm, the Shrimp Boys, Scott Egleston, and Ruby McCollister) were in town that we’d highly urge you to dare to enter the HELLTRAP NIGHTMARE on one of their two dates at the Lyric Hyperion coming up. Music from bands Vail and Mood Killer will be featured!

Tickets are $8 and you can (and really should) get your tickets here.

For those who attended UCB’s amazing Gene Wilder & Fidel Castro’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (in Limbo) last year, you’ll know that UCB LA will be doing another immersive theater experience for Halloween with HOTEL HELL-A.

Basically, all of UCB Sunset (5419 W. Sunset Blvd.) will be transformed into a haunted house of sorts, but, you know, done with that Upright Citizens Brigade flair.

You have three chances to come into the “HOTEL HELL-A” on Halloween on Tuesday at 7:30PM, 9PM, and 10:30PM. Tickets are $7 and you should get them ASAP here, here, and here respectively.

Though Halloween will be over, you can keep the spirit alive with Chicago’s own Helltrap Nightmare, a surrealist, horror comedy show (seemingly in the same oozing vein of The Heart, She Holler) coming to the Lyric Hyperion next month.

Also, it might be a perfect night for the show as it’ll be exactly a year to the day after, well, you know, the 2016 election was over.

The line-up includes:
-host Sarah Squirm, The Shrimp Boys, and Scott Egleston, all from Chicago
-Ruby McCollister from NYC
-LA’s own Jamie Loftus, Bruce Bundy, and Lyra Hill.

Tickets are $10 and you can (and should, if you dare) get them here.

Trailer for “Another Evil” Shows That Being an Annoying Human Being Can Be Monstrous Too

April 13, 2017
Uncategorized

Writer/director Carson D. Mell’s feature film debut is a very intriguing mesh of horror and comedy.

Another Evil shows that someone who is a so-called ‘ghost assassin’ can be just as bothersome as spirits who won’t stop haunting you. That premise and Mell’s pedigree of writing on Silicon Valley and Eastbound & Down has got us on board for what could very well be an “anti-buddy comedy”.

See all of this for yourself in the trailer, then look for its release on May 5th.

TBS Wants in on Aubrey Plaza’s Nightmarish Visions and Orders Pilot of Her “Nightmare Time”

TBS Wants in on Aubrey Plaza’s Nightmarish Visions and Orders Pilot of Her “Nightmare Time”

Someone who goes by @evilhag on Twitter is bound to have some really fun nightmares.

Horror comedy/horror comedy is on the rise as a genre hybrid with anything from Scream Queens to Ash vs. Evil Dead to the upcoming Stan Against Evil carving out their own niche in TV.

Since TBS went through their rebranding earlier this year, they are all in on the high concept for their scripted series. So, a horror comedy anthology series from Aubrey Plaza along with the help of writers Darcy Fowler, Kieran Valla, and Seth Kirschner sounds like a really good get for them.

Anyone else imagining Plaza narrating a scary, but absurd camp fire story?

Stan Against Evil, the horror comedy from the mind of the brilliant Dana Gould, will be coming next month to IFC.

Specifically, the series premiere will be on Wednesday, November 2nd at 10PM when John C. McGinley gets to killing demons with the extreme prejudice that can only come from cranky old baby boomers.

Alchemy, the woods, and being a social outcast combine for what looks to be whole mess of fun in writer/director Joel Potrykus’ latest film, The Alchemist Cookbook.

See for yourself in this trailer, then look for it on BitTorrent Now for pay-what you wish on October 9th and in select theaters shortly thereafter.

Horror, Comedy, and Christmas Collide in Trailer for “Krampus”

Dec. 4th will see another go at a Christmas horror movie. Rather than accidentally being funny, the movie is being touted as a horror comedy for Christmas and having Adam Scott, David Koechner, and Toni Collette will certainly help that genre blend out greatly.

Watch the trailer here before you go down a Wikipedia hole of holiday themed monsters.

Watch a Really Fun Trailer For Meta Horror Comedy “The Final Girls”

Do not confuse this with the recent thriller Final Girl.

The Final Girls, from director Todd Strauss-Schulson and writers M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller, looks a damn good time that both celebrates and simultaneously pokes fun at the genre tropes of so many cheesy horror movies from decades past.

From the looks of it, the cast of Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, Malin Akerman, Adam Devine, Angela Trimbur, Nina Dobrev, and Taissa Farmiga bring the crazy premise of being transported into a cheesy horror movie and trying to survive really well.

See what could be a very welcome load of wonderful madness in the trailer for The Final Girls here.

New Line Setting to Remake New Zealand Horror Comedy “Housebound”

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Today is a good day for the genre of New Zealand Horror Comedy. Not only is Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s What We Do In The Shadows going to see more U.S. screens, but another film in the same niche, Gerard Johnstone’s Housebound is going to get an American remake via New Line.

Housebound follows a firebrand teenage girl being forced back into a family home that is possessed, but, being a rebel, she isn’t putting up with any fuss from demons/spirits.

No writer, cast, or director is set yet, but something that sounds like Attack The Block meets Amityville Horror hailing from NZ is a movie that we’re definitely up for.

Starz to Have “Evil Dead” Series With Both Star Bruce Campbell and Director Sam Raimi Returning

So, it turns out that the Army of Darkness sequel that Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi were working on, is ending up as a series on Starz.

Bruce Campbell as Ash, Sam Raimi, and his boomstick are all set to return in 2015 to follow up after where Army of Darkness left off.

This series adaptation of Evil Dead franchise along with Jonathan Ames-Seth MacFarlane’s Blunt Talk starring Patrick Stewart will be two very good reasons to tune into Starz next year.

Steve Coogan Horror Comedy Series to Premiere on FearNet

We really don’t care where a post apocalyptic buddy comedy co-produced by the amazing Steve Coogan will land. We just care that it will happen and happen soon.

Luckily, FearNet is that place and Save Our Skins, something along the lines of I Am Legend meets The Trip, starring Nat Saunders and Chris Hayward, Peter Serafinowicz, and Hannah Spear will air next week, starting Apr. 1st.

Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk And Ian Roberts Join Horror/Coming of Age/Comedy ‘Kitchen Sink’

Apparently, this monster filled comedy set in a high school, “Kitchen Sink”, already has an amazing cast in Josh Fadem, Keegan Michael Key, and Joan Cusack and now has just added the likes of Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk, and Ian Roberts.

With that mashing of genres and this cast, the set photos of this film alone should be both hilarious and great.

Magnet Acquires Horror Comedy ‘Milo’ Starring Ken Marino

This just means we’re one step closer to seeing Ken Marino in a horror comedy or just Ken Marino, in general, on the big screen (remember how great he was in Wanderlust?)

Also, Gillian Jacobs and Stephen Root are also in the cast if all that isn’t enough for you.
