Arrested Development Season 5 Part 2 Gets a Trailer

February 28, 2019
Uncategorized
arrested development, netflix, season 5, trailer

Sure, there is season 5 part 2, but given Arrested Development’s insane trajectory as a television show (how the show has been made over the years is possibly as crazy as the actual storylines in the show), what will this end up meaning in the grand scheme of the show’s history? Arrested Development is so wonderfully meta and self-referential already, maybe these new episodes should be called “part deux”?

As we have not seen any of these upcoming episodes, we’re not sure exactly what’s going to happen, but we do know that, when all is said and done, watching Arrested Development in its entirety will probably break your brain (probably in a good way that is).

In any case, here’s a taste of what you are in store for starting Mar. 15th.

Arrested Development Season 5 Trailer Is a Pretty Great Way to Start Off This Week

The Bluth Family will be at their disastrous, but thoroughly entertaining hijinks yet again at the end of the month (Tuesday, May 29th) on Netflix.

From the looks of the new season’s trailer, season 5 of Arrested Development looks so very promising and definitely made us smile to start off a week (a first in a very long time).

Watch it, enjoy it, and repeat here until 5/29.

Mitch Hurwitz Announces Arrested Development Season 5 Coming Soon and “Arrested Development Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences” Coming This Friday

Arrested Development is a series destined to just make TV history at every turn.

From improbably coming back at Fox to coming back from the dead over at Netflix to very likely being the first series to intentionally recut an entire season for release (the closest thing we can think of to this experiment by Mitch Hurwitz is the ongoing fan debate of what order in to watch the Star Wars franchise).

In any case, there’s more Arrested Development coming to Netflix soon and, from the sounds of it, it’s back to “normal” (however you define normal in the Arrested Development universe) and we’re really happy to hear that.

Also, now that we think about it, could Arrested Development give Deadpool a run for its money in the most meta-self-referential franchise on screen? We think so.

Will Arnett Says ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Will Be Much More Like the Original

Rather than trying to plan around shooting schedules and piecing together multiple storylines from multiple characters, there will be more of the Bluths coming together in the upcoming season of Arrested Development.

So, someone’s wishes (probably a lot of people’s) have been answered.

We’ll see how much season 5 will harken back to some of the best seasons of televised comedy, hopefully, not to far from now.

Just a friendly reminder that season 5 of Arrested Development is official (though you probably already knew that from that Jason Bateman tweet) and will be arriving to Netflix next year.

“Look very probable I’m going to put some miles on the Stair Car this summer. Just officially signed on to more ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT today.”

Arrested Development fans have been reinforced to hang on to every bit of news on whether new episodes will ever come out.

This is the best and latest indication that a new season is on its way.

Arrested Development Season 5 Close to Happening as Deals for Cast Are Almost Done

According to Hollywood power player and Arrested Development EP Brian Grazer, all the deals for the large, highly in demand cast of Arrested Development (think about Veep, Transparent, Search Party, several feature projects, etc.) are almost done.

That means a fifth season of Arrested Development is almost officially under way. While it’s not official yet and the show has a topsy turvy history of being made, any hint of glimmer of hope these days is worth taking these days.

Mitch Hurwitz Has Finished Recutting Season 4 of Arrested Development Into 22 Episodes

Two years ago, there was talk of Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz recutting season 4 of the show.

Turns out that Hurwitz has indeed finished that project, which happens to include new Ron Howard narration over 22 episodes that run 22 minutes long, a la a typical sitcom running time in contrast to the varying length of the original 15 episodes of season 4 that went over a half hour. There is no word on if or when these “2.0 version” episodes of season 4 might find their way to Netflix, but, with knowledge of their existence, they’re probably bound to come out before too long.

As campaigning for The Emmys is heating up, The Hollywood Reporter is doing another round of their great, in-depth roundtable discussions.

Their latest brought together comedy actors that are Emmys contenders, which includes…

Jeffrey Tambor…

…Aziz Ansari…

…Jerrod Carmichael…

…Rob Lowe…

…Tony Hale…

…and Keegan Michael Key.

They touch on anything from representation of minorities to the most embarrassing moments, which Rob Lowe probably takes the cake with his dark secret (it’ll probably come up during his roast).

Even the most stubborn of kids might not hate eating vegetables quite like Connor Ratliff does. In Connor’s case, he’s a full grown adult and no one can tell him to eat his veggies or else.

Well, we guess his boss, Chris Gethard, can do that as a condition of interviewing one of Ratliff’s heroes, Tony Hale.

That’s exactly what happened and it’s even more surprising how much Connor can’t stand one of the most important parts of the food pyramid.

Mitch Hurwitz Plays an Ob-Gyn, That Seems Straight Out of Arrested Development, on New Season of Portlandia

Go figure. The guy who created Arrested Development knows how to play a character that would totally fit in the world of Arrested Development on screen.

As we’re all accustomed to now, Portlandia has a bunch of great guest stars every season. This time around, Mitch Hurwitz is one of them and he’s playing an overly wise-cracking Ob-Gyn, much to the dismay of Carrie Brownstein. It almost gets you thinking of how close the universes of Portlandia and Arrested Development are tone-wise.

Watch it here.

As Soon as He Can Get the Cast Together Again, Mitch Hurwitz Will Try Getting Season 5 of Arrested Development Done ASAP, Preferably Before the Election

January 9, 2016
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

As it is now with every season of Arrested Development, it’s contingent on the cast’s availability.

Because of what’s going in the world, specifically Trump and Making a Murderer, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz feels it imperative to get on season 5 of the series as soon as he can as he wants the parallels that the Bluth family have with the chaos of the real world right now to stay timely. While it’s outlined, the actual scripts have yet to be written.

Hurwitz is holding off on the negotiations for the highly in demand cast. In the past year, you’ve probably seen just Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera and David Cross in a multitude of different shows and movies. As soon as all the t’s are crossed and i’s dotted, he’ll try to outpace the crazy of Trump and whatever else is screwed up with our justice system leading up to the general election in November.

With that all of being said, this is probably the best indication of the odds being in favor of the next season of ‘Arrested’ actually happening.

Ironically enough, getting guest and recurring cast members for Arrested Development never seems to be a problem.

Season 5 of Arrested Development Is Being Written Right Now According to Ron Howard

The word of Ron Howard, the narrator on Arrested Development and someone who just got his second star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame is hard to argue against.

While on Good Morning America, Howard brought up the current status of Arrested Development, which is supported both by Netflix and 20th Century Fox and currently being written by Mitch Hurwitz and his writing staff. The fate of the series, as it has always been since it left Fox, rests with the cast and their availability.

Let’s hope that they can all get freed up at the same time for this new season.

Contrary To What We’ve All Been Hearing, Jason Bateman Says There Is No Current Plan for More “Arrested Development”

We’ve all made a huge mistake?

Despite hearing from Brian Grazer about a new batch of episodes of Arrested Development coming soon, it seems more unsure that such a thing is indeed happening.

Earlier this summer, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos expressed that he was hopeful to continue with new episodes of the series, but nothing was official or confirmed.

In his recent WTF appearance, Arrested Development star Jason Bateman echoed that sentiment by no knowledge of new episodes going into production.

He also elaborated that calling the latest episodes of Arrested Development “season 4″ as misleading as they were the first part of a three part arc.

Let’s hope we’ll be able to see the other two parts.

New Episodes of “Arrested Development” Coming in Mid-2016

(via The Wrap)

Over a month ago, Brian Grazer mentioned in passing that there were more episodes of Arrested Development coming. Now, you can have a time frame to look forward to.

Production, with everyone coming back, will begin at the beginning of 2016 and then come out approximately after a calendar season. Hopefully, they can have most of the Bluths together again.

Though not mentioned in Grazer’s last podcast appearance, Arrested Development is staying at Netflix. So, don’t be surprised if Netflix will account for even more Internet traffic at this time next year than the third in North America that they already do right now.

17 More Episodes of “Arrested Development” Are on The Way According to Brian Grazer

Big time producer Brian Grazer revealed to Bill Simmons on The B.S. Report that we’ll be getting another visit from The Bluth Family.

The announcement was almost in passing amidst talking about the success of Fox’s Empire, but Grazer did indeed announce to Simmons that 17 more episodes of Arrested Development are on the way.

We’re not sure of a time table, but since there’s a re-edit of season 4 also coming as well as the prospect of getting the cast together again in any capacity, a veritable season 5 might be far off.

The Re-Edit of Season 4 of Arrested Development Getting New Narration From Ron Howard

Last month, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz mentioned, sort of in passing, that he’s working on re-editing season 4 of the show in chronological order. No other details were brought up as to when we all could possibly see the new version of season 4.

However, today, Ron Howard, Arrested Development’s narrator, tweeted out that he’s doing new narration for these re-edited episodes.

With that in mind, it would be very surprising if we all didn’t get to see the new and improved episodes in the not so distant future.

What Has Happened to Comedy on Broadcast Networks? (Hint: Lots of Canceling)

It would be a little premature to say that there’s writing on the wall, but comedy definitely seems like it is playing second fiddle (or almost no fiddle at all) to hour long dramas at NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox. Comedy is currently flourishing on cable and online and, perhaps, that is where episodic comedy, wholly, is headed.

This TV season alone, freshman comedies Selfie, A to Z, Manhattan Love Story, and Bad Judge have been canceled along with relative new comers The Millers.

Community, Arrested Development, and now The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which had a series order from NBC but didn’t even make it to air, have moved from TV networks to online streaming services.

Just yesterday, it was announced ABC also scrapped a sitcom they had already ordered to series, Members Only starring John Stamos.

Bloggers and John Mulaney alike keep talking about whether Mulaney will last on Fox. On top of all of that, there are rumors that NBC has halted production on Last Comic Standing after it already had brought it back from the dead.

We’re not saying broadcast networks have drawn a hard line on in the sand (yet) prohibiting comedy from their airwaves. Cristela, black-ish, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine have found success just starting out and the networks have a few comedy mainstays like Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, and Two and Half Men. New Girl and The Mindy Project have also seemed to fared well in their tenure at Fox. Also, cable networks TBS and TNT have recently canceled Sullivan & Son and Franklin & Bash, respectively.

Still, this last couple of years have seen an unprecedented shift of the comedy genre as an aggregate on TV from going live on air to every household with a TV on a weeknight to niche cable networks and various online entities ranging anywhere from Netflix to YouTube to Amazon. Key & Peele, Louie, Portlandia, Veep, Transparent, and Children’s Hospital are all just a few perfect examples of this new paradigm.

The future for comedy on TV and the behemoths of television does have yet to be decided. The highly anticipated Last Man on Earth from Chris Miller and Phil Lord starring Will Forte is premiering next year. Networks, like CBS, are starting to get on board with their own streaming service.

What is clear in the current TV landscape, above all, is that the Internet isn’t going away and, because of that, viewers can watch whatever they want whenever they want to watch it. Thus, people will watch their favorite Key & Peele sketch as many as times as they can stand, binge watch The Simpsons via The Simpsons World app/site, consume as much media that exists online of their favorite comedians (i.e. web series, podcasts, stand-up clips, etc.), and do so at any time of any day in any place versus Thursdays at 8 at home,

In such an environment, it’s much harder than it used to be to launch a broad franchise sitcom that lasts 10 seasons and lives on in syndication, which has been the network TV model for comedy for decades. So, for now, as NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt poignantly remarked during Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s move to Netflix, “…we have a very drama-heavy midseason schedule.”

Mitch Hurwitz Re-editing “Arrested Development” More Chronologically

October 30, 2014

Season 4 of Arrested Development had to deal with a lot of obstacles, one of them being the shooting schedules of its all star cast of Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, David Cross, Portia De Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, and Jessica Walter that after season 3 had launched into a multitude of other successful projects. Thus, many scenes in season 4 did not include the entire Bluth family together like season 1-3 and accordingly had a much different feel with many episodes focusing on a different character’s perspective in the same timeline.

Series creator Mitch Hurwitz revealed in an interview that he is now trying to recut season 4 to flow more chronologically smooth, which would presumably resemble more of the original series. However, when we’d see that on Netflix has yet to announced.

Apparently, Cera is attempting to prank Sundance Film Festival audiences and then it going much different than expected as well as dazzling his new German girlfriend by taking her to the world’s biggest basket in Ohio.

We wouldn’t be surprised at all if any of these stories are the seeds for a new Arrested Development episode.

So, Netflix Surpassed HBO This Past Quarter in Subscriber Revenue

The online streaming giant Netflix has been making a lot of waves over the last couple of years with their entrance into producing their own content. In fact, after resurrecting Arrested Development, Orange Is The New Black, and more, Netflix has just, in this past quarter, surpassed HBO in subscriber revenue.

While that doesn’t exactly mean that Netflix has grown bigger than HBO, which has more of an established brand, more original content, and, overall, more accolades and money coming in, it certainly does mean that Netflix (and online streaming in general) is absolutely headed in that direction.

Maybe, a stand alone HBO GO will be up for subscription in the not so distant future and we can all watch Silicon Valley, Veep, and Girls without using our friends and loved ones’ passwords.

In addition to the tomfoolery he had with TI and Jimmy Fallon, Will Arnett also further assured us that there will be a 5th season of Arrested Development on The Tonight Show last night after having revealed some details on The Today Show earlier.

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos was “positive” of a return, but Arnett made doubly sure to tell us all that it will be definitely happening.

However, there’s no telling what the timetable is for shooting or a release, especially considering everyone’s schedules.

Hearing what it was like to play Kitty Sanchez would almost be good enough for a book, but there’s so much more, so you should pick it up and give it a read.
