Amy Schumer Signs Deal To Do Her Own Podcast on Spotify for $1 Million

High profile names doing podcasts continue to be a rising tide for the future of podcasts. If you want to think about the value of podcasts at the current moment, a seven-figure deal for talent is comparable to similar deals made routinely for TV, movies, and music.

Schumer will be doing a podcast that covers her takes on the world in regards to pop culture, politics, and stand up comedy. That could easily be the basis for a topical weekly show that Schumer could have hosted, but doing it in podcast form is much less production intensive and allows Schumer time to do plenty of other projects.

We think that this might be a tipping point for those on the fence about listening to podcasts.

If you’ve been missing Inside Amy Schumer, the trailer for Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein’s I Feel Pretty seems to promise you the next closest thing to some new sketches Schumer. It stars Amy in what could possibly be a reverse engineered, turned-inside-out, feminist version of Shallow Hal.

Schumer herself gave a bit on a preface to the movie’s trailer release on Ellen here.

You can look for I Feel Pretty in theaters this Summer on June 29th.

Judd Apatow Gets Looks of Concern in Trailer for His Netflix Special

On December 12th, a brand new comedy special from Judd Apatow will stream on Netflix. It won’t be some sort of variety TV special. It will be an hour of stand-up special from the writer/director/producer that used to do stand-up several years ago, first coming up with Adam Sandler before heading off to writing gigs at places like The Larry Sanders Show.

As it turns out, the idea of Judd Apatow: The Return as a stand-up special has caused some alarm for comedians who he has personally worked with behind the camera over the years.

See for yourself in this trailer what Chris Gethard, Amy Schumer, Mike Birbiglia, and more have to “say” to Apatow about returning to doing stand-up.

Since it’s International Woman’s Day, we’d like you to take note that Netflix’s releases for stand-up specials for 2017 have included great hours from Jen Kirkman and Cristela Alonzo and, this week, a brand new hour special Amy Schumer.

The aptly titled “The Leather Special” has Amy get as unfiltered as she has ever been all while checking off the box for “wearing a leather outfit for a comedy special”.

International Woman’s Day or not, you should watch all three specials, Just Keep Livin’, Lower Classy, and The Leather Special as soon as you get the chance.

Amy Schumer’s Latest Special Coming to Netflix on March 7th

It may have happened before this with Netflix for signing on both Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle for comedy specials, but Schumer now having her latest special released through the streaming service giant officially makes getting a Netflix special the new “getting an HBO special”.

Amy Schumer Is First Woman to Make Forbes’ Top 10 Highest Earning Comedians List, Kevin Hart Scores Top Spot

Score two for diversity.

Kevin Hart was far and away the top earning comedian by pulling in $87.5 million and Schumer cracks into what is pretty much exclusively a boys club (no mention of Joan Rivers through the years seems odd) with $17 million.

Also, it’s nice to see Dave Chappelle and Jim Gaffigan on the list as that would suggest that this top 10 list isn’t getting more balanced with comedians that are oft-appreciated for their craft.

Son of Zorn (series premiere) 8:30PM
Family Guy (season 15 premiere) 9PM

Fox’s primetime Sunday comedy block, slowly, but surely, keeps growing.

Inside Amy Schumer Season 5 Might Be on Hiatus for Awhile

Due to addressing incendiary remarks regarding a rape case in the comedy community by Kurt Metzger, an Inside Amy Schumer writer, Amy Schumer mysteriously said that the show wasn’t happening anymore, then had to explain through a series of tweets that season 5 of Inside Amy Schumer is going to happen, but “…not for the next year at least.”

So, we might have to wait until the end of 2017, maybe even 2018 for new episodes of the critically acclaimed, award winning sketch show.

Cut Gun Control ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Sketch Gets Posted Online

For some reason, this great sketch on Inside Amy Schumer featuring Jon Benjamin as a lawyer who can’t do anything about mass shootings was cut from airing even though gun control is absolutely the hot button issue in the U.S. right now.

All the filibustering, sit-ins, and general demand from an overwhelming majority of Americans for any sort of action on gun control make the sketch so timely that it has now been posted online.

Amy Schumer Does a Dark Satire of Multi Cam Sitcoms That Somehow Still Exist in 2016

There are so many reasons to think that we’re living in the future that past generations dreamed of, this presidential election notwithstanding, including going to Mars, self-driving cars, living past 100, and having the Internet instantly available in our pockets.

However, in 2016, there are many sitcoms, often those of the multi cam variety, that are still culturally reductive and, in a manner of speaking, ‘way behind the times’. You’ve probably seen Louie call this out on one episode where they had a cheesy sitcom break the fourth wall.

Well, Inside Amy Schumer upped the ante and went even darker with their satire of sitcoms that should have stayed in the last millennium.

Watch it here.

Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Billy Connolly, Garry Shandling, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Hart, Dave Attell, Frankie Boyle, Omid Djalili, Kirk Fox, Eddie Izzard, Stewart Lee, Paul Provenza, Emo Philips, Bonnie McFarland, Tiffany Haddish, and more offer their take on the artistry and craftsmanship that actually goes into going on stage and doing stand-up comedy in the documentary Dying Laughing.

Directors Lloyd Stanton and Paul Toogood extensively interviewed all of the above and made what might be another documentary that showcases stand-up as being more than just a bunch of clowns rattling off jokes every night.

This will be Rachel Feinstein’s third Comedy Central special, not to mention her biggest to date.

The hour of Only Whores Wear Purple allows room for Feinstein to go beyond the voices and characters to skewer things like her own love life and her overly excited mother. It’s Feinstein most personal and, consequently, best special yet.

Again, catch it its premiere at 11PM on Comedy Central.

In the years that Inside Amy Schumer has been around, Amy Schumer has not only propelled herself into legitimate comedy stardom on nearly all fronts, but has become a feminist icon.

Many big and bold sketches from the last season of Inside Amy Schumer perfectly exemplify that notion and the upcoming 4th season looks to be even more delightfully bolder.

See for yourself in this trailer, then look for the new season to start next week on Thursday, April 21st at 10PM on Comedy Central.

Bono Thinks That Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Their Comedy Should Be Deployed Against ISIS

While you might think this this celebrity fueled clickbait, take note that Bono from U2 did just go to a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing and suggested that comedy be employed in taking down terrorist group ISIS, specifically Amy Schumer, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Chris Rock.

That’s one of the world’s most well known musicians giving credence to the power of comedy and recommending comedy in fighting the narrow minded extremism over other art forms that are more often highly regarded for their political activism.

So, Schumer, Cohen, and Rock should be doing an ISIS roast?

Actor are players, so it works, right?

Though Amy Schumer didn’t get a Golden Globe for her unfiltered romantic comedy Trainwreck, she will be getting a special distinction with The Critics’ Choice MP Award. The Critics Choice covers both TV and movies, so the honor is well deserved for Schumer between Inside Amy Schumer, Trainwreck and her HBO special.

Anyone taking bets on whether Schumer will do a bit with Jennifer Lawrence while she’s accepting her award?

Comedy Central Renews Inside Amy Schumer for a Fifth Season, Broad City for a Fourth and Fifth Season, and Is Giving Abbi and Ilana a Mini-Series

Guess Comedy Central heard how much the world loved Amy Schumer, Abbi Jacobson, and Ilana Glazer.

As Comedy Central is in a current golden age with the likes of Nathan For You, Review, and Drunk History in addition to Inside Amy Schumer and Broad City, it just stands to reason that they would keep that going.

So, Broad City got picked up for two more seasons, which would bring Abbi and Ilana’s misadventures in the Big Apple to seasons 4 and 5 and got a mini series called Time Traveling Bong written by their writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs.

Comedy Central also announce that Inside Amy Schumer got its fifth season today and we can only imagine that Schumer is going to build off of the milestone year that she had in 2015 with her groundbreaking series.

Transparent, Veep, Anomalisa, and Master of None Get Golden Globe Comedy Nominations as Well as Joy and The Martian

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association continues to have a broader definition of comedy than anyone else during awards season.

There are your favorites as well as the favored upstarts in the field of this year’s Golden Globes nominees. The consistently praised Anomalisa and Master of None, heavy returning favorites Veep, Silicon Valley, and Transparent, comedy superstar Amy Schumer for Trainwreck, and brash newcomer Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend all got nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. There were even some noms for work that should be getting more love from more awards, but, somehow, isn’t. This includes Lily Tomlin’s turn in Grandma, Melissa McCarthy for Spy, and Hulu’s Casual from Jason Reitman.

With all of that said, films and shows that are being considered in different lights, mainly dramatic rather than comedic, have found their way into the comedy nominees, like they usually do, at The Golden Globes such as Joy, The Martian, The Big Short, and Orange Is the New Black. Certainly, Joy, The Martian, and The Big Short weren’t touting themselves as comedies in trailers and promotion and Orange Is the New Black has shifted to dramatic consideration with other awards. We’re not exactly sure why the distinction for comedy is so noticeably different with HFPA, but it does possibly allow for some notoriety for work that wouldn’t really get recognized otherwise.

So, here are the comedy nominees for this year’s Golden Globes.
