Watch the Trailer for B.J. Novak’s Send Up of True Crime Podcasts “Vengeance”

Only Murders in the Building broke new ground in comedy’s satirizing America’s obsession with true crime specifically as consumed through podcasts. This obsession is actually so fervent that there’s room for more than one send-up of how folks could fall into being amateur sleuths through podcasting about murder.

That’s where B.J. Novak’s latest work, Vengeance, comes in. Though it seemingly could have fit into his FX anthology series, this story stands along as a feature that follows Novak as someone who attempts to make a podcast out of what he thought was a misguided quest to avenge a family death and ends up being something way more than he bargained for. From the looks of the trailer, this could have been the most fun out of the stories that Novak came up for The Premise and, consequently, saved it for an entire movie.

In a lot of ways, this could have been the sort of plot that Hitchcock would come up with in 2022, though we’ll have to see the whole thing before we make on a full on Alfred Hitchcock comparison.

Watch the first official trailer for Vengeance here, then look for it in theaters starting 7/29.
