Science! Presents: Science on the Ballot (Twitch Live-stream)
September 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pmDonations accepted
With the global pandemic and the climate crisis both upon us, it’s never been more clear how much policy makers need to rely on science, yet too often politicians ignore science when it comes to making policy.
For our next show, we’re teaming up with science advocacy organization, March For Science, to bring you a show all about the science related policy that we’ll be voting on this November.
Our Science guest on this show will be Dr. Gretchen Goldman, a research director for the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists. In her role, Dr. Goldman leads research efforts on the role of science in public policy, focusing on topics ranging from scientific integrity in government decision-making, to political interference in science-based standards on hydraulic fracturing, climate change, and chemicals.
Our comedy guest on this show will be the fantastic Cristela Alonzo, who created and starred in eponymous ABC sitcom ‘Cristela‘, making her the first Latinx woman to write and star in her own prime time comedy. You can also watch Cristela on Netflix with her special, Lower Classy.
Normally we’re joined by two guests, a scientist and a comedian, but this show we’ll be bringing on a third guest to help us understand these issues from the political side. That policy expert will be March For Science’s very own Senior Advisor, Rania Batrice. Rania has sat on the board of many NGO’s including March For Science, and the Innocence Project of Texas, as well as lent her strengths to political campaigns up and down the ballot, including serving as Deputy Campaign Manager for the Berni Sanders campaign in 2016.
