When it comes to Asian cinema, Americans are usually offered up works from South Korea, Japan, and China. You hopefully know that there are far more sovereign nations that have their very own cinema that is worth exploring.

Case in point: the upcoming release Leonor Will Never Die, written and directed by Martika Ramirez Escobar, from the Philippines. It’s a movie that follows the coma induced visions of a former working action movie screenwriter, which is already an intriguing story no matter where it came from. In fact, as claimed in the headline, that might very well be more meta and self-reflexive than everyone’s favorite meta-action-franchise, Deadpool.

In any case, the setting being Philippines and the movie being in Tagalog adds even more fascinating layers for what might be an indie film jewel from Ramirez Escobar. See for yourself in the trailer here, then look for Leonor Will Never Die in select theaters starting on Fri. Nov. 25th (Black Friday).
