after midnight, don't tell comedy, emmys, eric andre, funny woman, hacks, lisa frankenstein, mean girls, roy wood jr

1. Taylor Tomlinson officially announces the premiere date of @fter Midnight, following The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, beginning Mon. Jan. 16th with a touch of murder(?).

2. Hacks. Spring. Be ready.

3. Eric Andre’s latest special, ERIC ANDRÉ LIVE NEAR BROADWAY, is going where he’s most at home, Adult Swim, come Jan. 18th at midnight. With this being at Adult Swim and Eric seemingly having carte blanche there, we hope this will somewhat resemble his legendary b day parties.

4. The latest trailer for Lisa Frankenstein further suggests that Diablo Cody has still got it. Please enjoy, then look for it in theaters near you starting Feb. 9th.

5. PBS is essentially doing their own British version of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel called Funny Woman starring Gemma Arterton that’s not actually based on a real person. Take your first look here.

6. While Comedy Central is still figuring out what the hell they want to do with The Daily Show, go out and see Roy Wood Jr. be so damn funny all across the country. Tickets available at roywoodjr.com/tour-roy-wood-jr.

7. The Primetime Emmys reinstated Writing for a Variety Series as a category, making it so certain shows won’t have to compete against the TV institution that is SNL (Variety).

8. Maybe, just maybe, this musical version of Mean Girls will be worth it? Just see for yourself in this final trailer. At the very least, if you didn’t know the name Reneé Rapp, you will going forward from 2024.

9. We’ll leave you with this: Peep these numbers put up by Don’t Tell Comedy in 2023 alone. Damn.

TCB Debriefing 10/26/23: Lisa Frankenstein, Hasan Minhaj, Shane Torres, Manos Day, Grace Kuhlenschmidt

October 26, 2023
News
daily show, don't tell, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, hasan minhaj, lisa frankenstein, manos day, manos the hands of fate, new yorker, shane torres

1. A week before Halloween is just about the perfect time for a trailer for a new Diablo Cody movie, Lisa Frankenstein. Predictions: This will be a break out role for Kathryn Newton (please don’t come at us with Detective Pokemon and Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) and will be an inevitable fascinating contrast to the other Frankenstein-riff movie coming out soon, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things. Have your curiosity more than peaked with Lisa Frankenstein’s first trailer here, then plan your Valentine’s Day around its release.

2. Hasan Minhaj goes Patriot Act-ish in response to the now infamous New Yorker interview where his act was reported to be embellished rather than 100% true. One has to wonder if, from now on, if there will be a literal switching of hats by comedians who do take on other roles in addition to their figurative one.

3. Shane Torres had the final word on being a Guy Fieri apologist and he very well might have the final word on the proliferation of eating ass. Please enjoy it during his Don’t Tell set.

4. There are so many unnecessary holidays (we tag our daily posts on IG with them), so why not have a day dedicated to celebrating what is long regarded as one of the worst movies (making one of MST3K’s most celebrated and enduring episodes) of all time Manos: The Hands of Fate? Thanks to Dumb Industries, that will be canonized on the 57th anniversary of the legendarily bad piece of cinema on Nov. 15th (which they will be doing something very special for). Sign-up at Dumb Industries to get more details.

5. Welcome, Grace Kuhlenschmidt to The Daily Show (ahem, Comedy Central still hasn’t picked a new host though).

6. We’ll leave you with this: Even if you think of comedians as philosopher kings, the last line of free speech and expression, remember that they are, first and foremost comedians before those all those other titles (i.e. they’re always/should be going for the joke first).

TCB Debriefing 10/13/23: Omid Singh, Found Footage Fest, The Afterparty, David Krumholtz, Diablo Cody, Ramy Youssef

October 13, 2023
News
comedy special, david krumholtz, diablo cody, found footage fest, free tickets, lisa frankenstein, omid singh, ramy youssef, stand up comedy, the afterparty

1. Omid Singh has tirelessly worked on his stand-up day in and day out for years in the very crowded LA comedy scene. Yet, you wouldn’t even think about the time he’s put in with the ease, self-assuredness, and quiet command of the stage in his first special, Lil Special. Singh seems carefree and yet on-point for tried and true material that includes a very informative Indian dance lesson. Please enjoy what undoubtedly will be a precursor to a great hour special with Lil Special now on YouTube here.

2. Found Footage Fest has found more footage and more dates and cities to spread the gospel of forgotten VHS content. Go get tix at foundfootagefest.com/tour

3. There will probably be an afterparty after The Afterparty was just cancelled today by Apple TV+, but it’ll very likely be invite only (and have no murder at it).

4. David Krumholtz once graced the Internet as Gigi with WeatherFrom.com, then was in Oppenheimer, and is now set to play a lit professor with six months to live (Deadline). Look for Lousy Carter in early 2024 to continue to a trend of angry professors in dramedies (Lucky Hank, The Holdovers).

5. Diablo Cody returns (note that Juno came out 16 years ago) with her latest project, Lisa Frankenstein (Deadline) that seems to be a teen rom com with a Frankenstein in it? So, maybe akin to Warm Bodies, but way cooler dialogue?

7. We’ve got free tix for Ramy Youssef headlining The Regent in LA next week. Let us know if you want tix at thecomedybureau@gmail.com this weekend and they very well could be yours.

8. We’ll leave you with this: We guess, get Taylor Swift to be a fan of your comedy?
