John Early Presents: Clockwatchers (Live-stream)
April 17 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pmFor Metrograph Members Only
I rented Jill Sprecher’s Clockwatchers when I was 11 years old, and when it ended, I was inconsolable. It was the first movie I had ever seen that felt like real life. It was the first piece of art to speak to me directly, without mincing words, about the impermanence of relationships and the indignities of the corporate workplace. It made me fall madly in love with Toni Collette, Lisa Kudrow, Parker Posey, and Alanna Ubach. The way this movie has essentially disappeared, like a rubber band ball swiped off someone else’s desk, is a bit too meta for my taste. I love you Metrograph for bringing attention and some goddamn prestige to Clockwatchers, and I am beside myself to get to talk to Sprecher about her dreamy, biting, and modest masterpiece.—John Early
