HBO Max has made a lot of head way since its inception, especially in the realm of dramedy. Hacks has rightfully earned itself acclaim and awards and has been a very shiny part of the HBO Max brand and now, they’re continuing to make way with My Dead Dad from Pedro Correa, which they picked up off the festival circuit.

There’s not a lot of mystery behind the title as the film follows the aftermath of an estranged father’s death and everything a rudderless son has to figure out. Pedro Correa co-wrote and stars in My Dead Dad and has Fabio Frey directing and seems to have come up with that might be a bit bleaker than Beginners, but still sharply funny and heart wrenching all the same.

Take a gander for yourself with the official trailer here, then look for it on HBO Max come Wed. Jun. 1st.
