Your Next Favorite Coming of Age Comedy Might Be from Italy with “AMANDA”
Over the last several years, the good majority of notable coming-of-age comedies seem to have come in the package of American or UK indie dramedies that charm the film festival circuit. Or, is that we haven’t gotten a chance to see wondrous coming-of-age comedies from other territories around the world?
Well, AMANDA, the feature debut of writer/director Carolina Cavalli might buck this trend. With the subtle, yet biting humor of Noah Baumbach or Wes Anderson, the trailer for AMANDA offers up what could be a very strong debut following a young woman stumbling to the strangest places while looking for direction in her life, and, perhaps, the sign of another comedy auteur on the rise.
See for yourself here, then look for AMANDA, starring Benedetta Porcaroli, in limited release on Fri. Jul. 7th and on demand on Sat. Sept. 5th.
