SKIPPED HISTORY PRESENTS: THE POWER BROKER (PART 1 OF 3) (in NYC)

September 8, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$20
  • « Petty Cash Studios (in LA)
  • Funny Games @ The Elysian (in LA) »

Ben Tumin, whose celebrated comedic breakdowns of history books on Skipped History were profiled in The New York Times, takes on his favorite history book ever: The Power Broker.

This show is the first in a three-part series Ben has made exploring Robert Moses and his continued impact in New York—just in time for a mayoral election where candidates are battling over issues Moses helped define, like affordability, housing, and transportation. Part 1 chronicles Moses’s studies, his upbringing, and his rise to power. Picture it like a John Oliver bit focused on New York history, and how a strongman, through sheer weight of personality, “tilted democracy off course.”

Haven’t had time to read The Power Broker? This show is for you. Adore the The Power Broker? This show is for you, too. It’s a safe space for New Yorkers who love the book, and for the people who have to live with them; a fun yet in-depth examination of how New York, for better and for worse, turned into the city it is today.
