Men, Come Inside of Me (in LA)
March 8 @ 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm
$15“Men, come inside of me” is a comedy show starring Toni Nagy during which she embodies all the men that have come inside of her, both metaphorically and literally. While exposing the faults and traumas of these men through a variety of methods, including interactive audience engagement, clown, storytelling, and dance, she also plays herself in order to deconstruct what she has just constructed out of construction paper. Toni as Toni relates to the men that have come inside of her, and connects to them on a heart, soul, and genital level. Her effort to uncover these men is entwined with her desire to understand them, as well as herself. Toni is them; she is Toni; she is you; she is me; and he is we. Hold me.
The characters Toni explores are archetypes of men that also speak to her own psychology. There is the spiritual man who wants to connect to the cosmos, but also wants women to touch his dick. A crypto bro who macro-doses ayahuasca to abandon his ego, who also deeply desires financial success for his self-worth to feel satiated. A comedian who desires fame, but also authenticity, but also women to want bone him. A father who craves meaning in his life, but also resents the responsibility of that meaning. A silver fox who has left his family because his bitch wife kept wanting him to “emotionally evolve,” which is a lot of expectation and not to mention, super annoying. This final character has deeply buried barrier to his personal growth, something that is true of all of these men, and if she’s honest for two seconds, of Toni as well.
This show is ultimately about building empathy and understanding for all the parts of ourselves that we often feel shame towards. It’s an exploration of gender, sexuality, and identity that intends to unbox the confines of these labels and expose the present truth that we are all unnervingly similar. Psych 101 rearing it’s ugly head: The flaws we point out in others we only recognize because we see them in ourselves. “Men, come inside of me” tells the story of how Toni’s admission of her own issues is the key to which she unlocks compassion for the men she’s always loved to hate. She unravels the core wound that binds these men, and herself to them.
