Guilt Free (in NYC)

If you need thinspiration, Guilt Free is not the show for you… or maybe it is. Guilt Free, through three different unhinged characters, explores diet culture because you can’t escape it whether you have an almond mom or have ever heard Dr. Oz open his mouth.

Inspired by the food labeled as “guilt free” in the early 2000s, this show wants you to laugh (and maybe cry) about things not-not based on the personal experiences of dieting and growing up fat without feeling guilty about it. The pressure to be thin, but not too thin, takes each character in the show to desperate lengths. As a life-long fattie, Maddie has been on Weight Watchers, the Special K diet, p90x, Slimfast, vegan Paleo (scary), 1200 calories a day, and has Tae Bo’d to save her life. The show draws on the actual desperation so many of us go through to be thin and heightens it.

Maddie Silverstein is a sometimes comedian, sometimes model. She has modeled for big brands like Youth To The People and Forever21 and has been humbled by performing in pizza parlors for five people on a Tuesday night. She has headlined Chicago Women’s Funny Fest, Laugh Factory, and more. Maddie currently produces an all plus-size comedy show ‘Funny Fat Friend’ and queer wrestling-themed variety show called ‘Will They Kiss?’. Guilt Free is her debut solo show.
