Apocalypse Cabaret (in LA)
From comedian, cabaret star, and all-around chaos enthusiast, Scout Durwood (MTV’s MARY + JANE, Friendsgiving), APOCALYPSE CABARET: SONGS FOR THE END OF THE WORLD is a darkly hilarious, high-octane, one-woman cabaret that asks the big questions, like if the world is ending, do we still have time for one more song?
Hailed as “brazen, brass” by Vogue and praised by The Hollywood Reporter for her unshakable commitment to performance, Durwood delivers a powerhouse 60-minute tour-de-force combining cabaret, comedy and existential musings into an introspective study of the brief and fleeting moment where Neitzche and The Spice Girls collide. This genre-defying spectacle follows a lonely karaoke jockey who finds herself trapped with the audience in a liminal space, and decides to go out doing what she loves: belting it out.
As the night unfolds, it becomes evident that the apocalypse is a stand-in for something much more personal; the anxiety of life becoming much more daunting than the end of the physical world. Despite it all, our protagonist remains committed to finishing the karaoke sign up list with Durwood’s musical journey serving as a backdrop for an exploration of the life she lived. A high-concept cabaret thrill ride—think Katy Perry meets Sartre—Durwood’s musical performances range from lighthearted originals SKY DANCER, to pop bangers and Broadway ballads.
