WE SHOULD START A… Table Read (in LA)

$17.85
  • « (9PM-11PM Hourly) 10 Min. @ NoHo Fourth Wall (in LA)
  • Tiny Idea Live! (in NYC) »

Have you ever been chatting with your bestie/sig oth/therapist/dog/librarian and been convinced that your vibe is so UTTERLY ELECTRIC you simply must start a podcast?

Well, for the love of all that is holy, STOP. Please fight that urge with every fiber of your being.

Channel that energy into something useful by attending the first everrrrr live reading of WE SHOULD START A-, a pilot written by Alyssa Burton. Things there will be: LAUGHTER and COMMUNITY. Things there won’t be: MASTURBATORY CELEBRITY “INTERVIEWS” and ADS FOR BETTER HELP AND/OR QUINCE: HIGH QUALITY CASHMERE WITHOUT THE RETAIL MARKUP.

F*ck.

I just did an ad for Quince by accident. Do you guys see how podcast culture has become so insidious and why this story needs to be told IMMEDIATELY? Together, we can stop the rampant spread of podcasting and prevent the demonic spawning of the next Jake Shane.

Are you with me or what??!!

TLDR: take out those damn AirPods and come join us at the Lyric on Thursday, August 6th for the time of your life. More details below XO

WAIT. WHAT IS THIS PILOT ABOUT EVEN? Omg, sorry we should have led with that.

LOGLINE: Every idiot and their best friend thinks they should start a podcast.
This is the story of two idiot best friends who absolutely don’t want to start a podcast.

SPOILER ALERT: They start a podcast.

WHO IS ALYSSA BURTON ANYWAY? Sooooo glad you asked!

ALYSSA BURTON, also known as “Hollywood’s Best Kept Secret,” is a comedy writer based in Los Angeles. Raised on the rough streets of Long Island and hardened by the tragedy of being 15 pounds overweight her entire life, Burton turned to humor at a young age in an attempt to dull the pain of life’s woes. Her writing, infused with quick-witted dialogue and an undying tone of snarkiness, focuses on female protagonists, multi-generational coming of age stories, and unfortunately, the cursed Gen-Z experience. Someone’s gotta do it!

Burton studied Film and Creative Writing at Northwestern University, where she penned such culturally important pieces as a short film about a male seahorse getting an abortion, as well as an autobiographical short story about hooking up with a Colombian rock climber, which was published in the Oakland Arts Review.

Currently, she works supporting Writer/Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic on their overall deal at Netflix. Above all, Alyssa would like people to know that she consistently has perfect skin and is considered very young for her grade.
